Central Vacuum
Once considered pure luxury, central vacuum systems are becoming more and more popular in both homes and offices. Unlike traditional vacuums where the motor is carried around the building, a central vacuum system uses a vacuum pump which is located in one room only, say a garage, basement or laundry room. Only the hose is carried from room to room, where it is plugged into wall inlet valves that are connected back to the pump.
The reasons why central vacuum systems are becoming more popular are self evident. There's no need to drag the vacuum motor around with you. This makes vacuuming lighter work and it's much easier to vacuum staircases and steps. A central vacuum systems is also a lot quieter as the motor is hidden away in the garage or some other place that is out of the way.
Another major reason why more people prefer to use a central vacuum system is because they can be cleaner. Dust and allergens are often sucked up by conventional vacuums, only to be expelled out the other end back into the room. Not so with a central vacuum system. If any allergens are expelled they are expelled in the garage.
It isn't just new homes that can have the advantage of a central vacuum system. Older homes can be fitted with the system. Tubing can be run under the floor, in wall cavities and in the attic. In fact, it would be surprising if an existing home couldn't be fitted with a central vacuum system.
With the benefits that a central vacuum system offer we're bound to see more homes installed with this new technology.
